The Truth about Heartbreak by B. Celeste

4.0

There’s so much to unpack after finishing this book, but I’ll just summarize it with a few thoughts.
I really wish the prologue for this book wasn’t there, and the only explanation for its existence, is that the author knew such a slow burn romance was going to make the readers lose their mind if they didn’t have anything to look forward to.

My second take away is that the author felt more sympathy for Isabel than one would hope, otherwise, she wouldn’t have made Everett the least bit sympathetic to her antics, and endlessly entitled bitchy tendencies. When she finally faded into the background, I breathed a sigh of relief, but still felt like she got more than she deserved. (and I’m not just referring to 10 freaking years of our MMC’s time)

I knew the angst was going to be present, and the tension was going to be high level, but I can’t help wishing that we got more Face-Time with our two love interests, instead of them spending almost the entire duration of the book separated from one another,in all the forms that distance looked like.

Overall, this was a story about hope and new beginnings. I feel like the author was certainly successful in her attempt to write an authentic, albeit grueling, love story that had ugly moments as well as beautiful moments of overcoming adversity and painful beginnings.
