Storm Born by Amy Braun

2.0

I found this book really annoying. The world didn't feel particularly well thought out (the systems they have set in place to deal with the fallout of the storm seem arbitrary and it didn't really feel like they were living in a world that was deprived-talking about throwing out food despite the fact they're all on food rations ect.)

I also hated the relationship, Ava seems to fall completely into insta-love for no real reason and then her feelings for Hadrian seem to drive so many of her decisions, she's a bit obsessed and it's kind of sad to read about a girl changing so much for a man who's never even hinted he has feelings for her. I never real felt much of a connection between them. To be honest most the characters felt pretty one dimensional, their motivations were simplistic and a bit random.

The magic played a big part in the story but wasn't particularly well explained.

Spoiler also I really coulnt understand why they had to let all the storm born out once a century, for a start not doing it evactly even 100 years would have been a bit less conspicuous, I also wondered why they didn't just stagger them, one storm born seems able to cause a lot of damage but when we meet them one on one in the book they're not causing the carnage that they apparently cause when released together. Surely just release them one at a time in the Bermuda Triangle or something? It was just an arbitrary decision that really effected the story and the world and I couldn't understand why.
