1177 B.C.: The Year Civilization Collapsed by Eric H. Cline, Barry S. Strauss

challenging informative medium-paced

4.25

This did a great job of helping readers remember the many, many rulers and place names in the mix throughout this era, laying out relationships and networks in order to show a broad yet detailed picture of what was going on at the end of the Bronze Age across the whole Mediterranean. Cline frames the various socioeconomic relationships as well as the scale and impact of disasters in modern terms that makes them feel relevant and understandable. He also draws parallels between that system and our modern, highly globalized and interconnected financial system. It makes a huge topic engaging and easy to follow.
