The Crying of Lot 49
by Thomas Pynchon
”Shall I project a world?”
The Crying of Lot 49 is the 3rd novel by Thomas Pynchon that I have read and by far the shortest of the three. While it is quite short, it is as dense as possible; the mystery builds on itself exponentially. Like all great mystery novels, the answers are not here. Only more questions arise. The American Experience is to submit to the conspiracy of the unknown above and all around you. Everything is connected but nothing makes sense. The beauty is hidden in the unknown, as that is all there is left. I hate to be this predictable in my taste, but this is very obviously an incredible short novel.
“This is America, you live in it, you let it happen. Let it unfurl.”
