I only read this book because it reminded me a lot of Does It Hurt? By H.D Carlton which was my favorite book in 2023 and I was completely wrong. The book has no actual enemies to lovers because they constantly bang that it feels like hatred with benefits. Like it’s so much that Lincoln CONSTANTLY talks about Solane and bending her over that at some point you just roll your eyes which didn’t make it better when everyone on Skelm Island kept mentioning how Lincoln is grumpy cause he hadn’t gotten laid in a while. And then Solane’s attitude being cringey because she’s saying things like “I’m a boss ass bitch” like we get it women can be detectives don’t try to shove it down my throat I’m also a feminist but good lord. 

I do have a vendatta against this book because I didn’t read it quite as fast as Audilbe wanted me to read it so they took the fucking audiobook from my fucking clutches which then made me have to pay real money on a book that I dispise but I had committed to this book and I didn’t want to switch to reading on my kindle so I had to read it and I still was annoyed by these two characters trying to “not have sex” as they’re having sex. I’ve read books that were pure erotica and still they had more plot than this. And I find that funny because Sav R, Miller and Emily McIntire said that this book is a slow burn, yet they fuck each other’s brains out constantly. 

Then the plot twist. Solane's name is actually Morgan and she’s actually Morgan Jenkins as in the daughter of the dude in the lighthouse and she’s the friend that Lincoln has been searching for and believed was still alive. Oh my god! Jesus Christ, what is this a book from the early 2000s when they discover that the main character is actually the long-lost princess. Fucking God. This book shouldn’t have been written let alone be published. But then we get the reveal of the Fate Reaper, and it was Lincoln’s brother-in-law who tried killing Morgan because Lincoln didn’t save him from the priest touching him and others? It felt like they had no idea what the ending was going to be, so they scrambled trying to figure it out only to then point at the church for touching kids. I get it it’s a serious issue however it also has been done countless times I just wished that they did something else. But yeah, I didn’t enjoy this.
