Shadow Princess by Susanne Valenti, Caroline Peckham

I'm really enjoying this series overall, but my individual book ratings have fluctuated.

I knew this book was going to piss me off from the get go because of Booktok, but thankfully I wasn't hit with any spoilers, so it was still kiiiind of a surprise. Enough of a surprise that I cried.

Pros: Darcy & Orion one hundered percent. I absolutely love them. The tension between Darius and Tory is also improving and I am starting to like their connection more. While Tory's character can frustrate me, I find her relatable and it's tough for me to fully connect with the ugly parts of a character and still keep reading. I'm also enjoying the sub plotline with Max and Geraldine. It's a cute, fun twist.

Cons: There are scenes and dialogue that sound so silly and childish to me that I could never rate the book 5 stars. The main characters are 19-20 but act 15 at times. While it's rare that those scenes come up, it's still enough that I'm irritated. I've also noticed the style of writing these authors use creates a lul around 3/4th of the book.
