Spoonbenders
by Daryl Gregory
I'm not sure why I initially thought this was a YA novel-- maybe because Matty, who's a teenager, was the first character whose perspective was introduced (or at least I think it was his perspective)? Maybe it was the quirky, fun concept? I don't know, but regardless, this is decidedly *not* a YA novel. It's got moments of humor, but it's more about family breakdown and trying to muddle through difficult situations and people who love each other trying to do right by one another when it counts. The blurb likening this to Chabon was apt, although this one has a more satisfying ending than most of Chabon's books!
