Somewhat entertaining, character-driven mystery

I’ve read only one other Inspector Gamache story. It wasn’t to my liking much: lots of gentility and so much chattiness. The outcome/motive was ho-hum. Still Life.

This one hooked me because it was set in Paris, and sounded intriguing. It was better than the first and sprinkled with classical quotes, some humor, lots of red herrings.

It was mildly entertaining and I wanted to see how it resolved. Some of the family drama was a bit much for me, and the climax of the story dragged and dragged. Satisfying drags, of course, but I was wondering when it would end.

Nevertheless, there were some characters I liked such as Armand’s wife. I also liked the archivists.
