Yes, I raised my rating to 4 stars. No, the series didn’t magically get better or become great literature, but I have to admit that I’m enjoying this and that I’m invested enough to spend yet another $12.99 on a kindle book. I couldn’t put the book down.
After We Fell was incredibly stressful for me. I was annoyed at both Tessa and Hardin through much of the book. But at the same time, I was so emotionally invested and I had to keep going. The whole back and forth thing was driving me nuts, but this book ramped up the drama by including family drama that makes me realize that maybe their families put up with their tornado of chaos because they have their own skeletons in their closets.
The ending! All of the books so far have had kind of cliffhanger endings, but the thing revealed at the end of this one was insane. I literally threw my kindle because I knew I had to immediately buy the next book and I was upset because I thought we were all making progress. I mean, we started this journey with Hardin being a hot mess of substance abuse problems and anger issues, but I also kind of felt like he’s been making some progress up to this point to not be quite so violent and angry and just when he starts to have a handle on it, someone in his life rips the rug out from under him. I mean, no excuses for not figuring out how to handle life, but still.
