The Art of Racing in the Rain by Garth Stein

3.0

WARNING: THIS BOOK IS A TEAR-JERKER.
I'm not going to lie, did not like this book for the most part. Not only was the story depressing and went out of its way to be painfully unfair to the narrator's owner, but 90% of the book was about racing cars. Not life or the story. Technical jargon that only enthusiasts could follow was in patches so long my eyes glazed over until it had passed. I love books with animal characters, especially ones from their point of view; however, this story was told inconsistently. The dog was a philosophical genius but did not understand people? I didn't realize you could be both.
There was so much hope for this book to be great, but it fell very, very short.

However, every story has its good parts, and Enzo is impossible not to love. He is a precious character full of love and optimism. A selfless dog that can be learned from in his wisdom beyond his age.
