I was totally enthralled by this book but unfortunately the ending let me down. I love political intrigue in my books and was excited to see how the socio-politics of it all worked out in the end but it wasn’t shown and lowkey felt like a side thought.
I did love the tension, I was kicking my feet giggling at moments, but some of the miscommunication was over the top.
I also struggle with the target audience. Imo some of the messaging and foreshadowing is very over the top, so you’d think a younger audience, but the themes of SA and torture feel a little heavy to me for YA. Idk, just the tone is interesting I guess.
All that is to say I still enjoyed this story, and absolutely loved the magic system (so cool and fresh) and the relationship between the MCs, but yeah the story didn’t round out how I would’ve liked (some plot points felt very incomplete).
