The Accidental by Ali Smith

4.0

I so loved spending time with Astrid, she appealed to the enjoyer of fictional little girl freaks in me, that I was a bit disappointed when it wasn't in her perspective the whole way through, but after adjusting I could appreciate each section as it stood individually. The writing was really compelling in style and inventiveness, so I still felt engaged with the sections from characters I doubt I would elsewise have given a fuck about (Michael - utterly uninteresting to me in concept, but I found passages of his sections kind of delicious as his sense of self unraveled). It was a meander book, but I like that sort of thing sometimes.
