Clockwork Angel by Cassandra Clare

3.0

This book was better than expected.

This book follows Tessa who is kidnapped and being experimented on by The Dark Sisters so that she could learn her unique powers. To control her, they threaten to kill her brother's life. Soon she is rescued by the Shadowhunters. She agrees to team up with them to help solve the mystery of some mundane deaths so she can rescue her brother.

The writing in this book is much much better than the previous ones. But I really wish that there would be more focus on emotions than the way a person looks. I feel like characters were also more developed, but some felt like older ones..

Let's take Will; he seems like a more developed version of Jace. I'm so sorry I said he reminded me of Rhysand, I'd only read a few pages then, he is absolutely nothing like Rhysand. Infact Will is an asshole, much like Jace. Why does Tessa like him? Actually I do know why, cause he's good-looking and that bad boy thing. But man Tessa; slut shamed you. Don't get me wrong, I do like him better than Jace, and I want to know about his past.

Tessa. Why oh why did you have to be so shallow and dumb witted like Clary? I kind of liked her in the start, but then the way she talked about the Silent Brothers, who were trying to help is disgusting. And then, this dumb girl couldn't just screamed at De Quincey's, like what?
Spoiler Also completely bonkers, this girl goes back to Will in the end, to get insulted, I don't care how much you like a guy, like yourself more girls

Jem. Oh my god, I loved him. Please don't kill him off. Please. He's a sweetheart. Even asshole Will and shallow Tessa like him. He's adorable. His friendship with Tessa. The way he is with everyone. Please someone find him a cure okay?

“Well, I don’t want you to die,” Tessa said. “I don’t know why I feel it so strongly,I’ve just met you, but I don’t want you to die.”
“And I trust you,” he said. “I don’t know why, I’ve just met you,but I do.”

Charlotte. She's cool. I expected her to be smarter though. There were so many hints, it was frustrating for me, that these characters weren't catching on. But I just really liked her and Henry. She's kind, caring and strong, she's just stuck in the patriarchal society.

Henry is awkward and geeky. I would liked him to be smarter too. But I still liked him. And I hated Will and Jessamine for being so rude. I wanted to see more of him and Charlotte together though.

Jessamine. She's mean and conceited, but damn did she surprise me in the end. Yes but still a bitch.

I liked Sophie and Thomas. I think we're gonna get more of Sophie, so that would be great. But also Thomas is a hero. Oh and btw more evidence that Will is an asshole, he like Thomas when he was a kid, because that was the only guy around his age, then came Jem who isn't a servant and he completely forgot about Thomas..

Again the thing similar to Mortal Instruments (first three)- it's not that the Villain is all great and malicious and a great evil genius, but that the good characters are kind of dumb.

I liked the Dark Sisters creepy presence.

I feel like the concept of the automatons would've actually been cooler in Mortal Instrument (since it's set in present day), think about AI like from Westworld fighting them, Shadowhunters have would no chance.

Overall enjoyed it! 3 stars!

Why is the shadowhunter series so long though, I've read 4 books and I'm not even close to half done.. *sighs*
