Defiance of the Fall by TheFirstDefier
4.0

For what it sets out to be I think this is a very solid read, the world building is very creative, the progression system is interesting even if the breadth of skills/abilities is pretty limited so far. The characters are also intriguing, though hopefully we get more development in that department. Enemies are decently creative and combat is pretty enjoyable (though sometimes a little basic). The protagonist doesn’t feel overpowered in all the fights but there are moments where their power level is put into perspective.

Unfortunately I do get the impression the author rushed through writing certain scenes/interactions/characters as certain aspects of the story feel a bit surface level, there is a fair amount of brushing over details and characters in the tail end of this book (also certain things just sort of happen out of nowhere, oh we just finished fighting a few sentences ago time to go here) which also impacts the feel of the pacing negatively. Early on there’s the slow growth and later on there are the issues with pacing/depth but while a little rough around the edges the overall experience is still quite enjoyable. Looking forward to digging into the rest of this series.
