The American Plan by Richard Greenberg

5.0

"GIL. Okay, so plan one: We marry these women. And we have our houses and our children and our special friendship. And we have our fine jobs and our fine friends and our fine reputations. And our wives adore us because we're passionate and kind. And our children adore us because we're patient and doting. And we forget about the past and the world kind of opens wide for us and we laugh like lunatics for the next half-century - because the world thinks it's in love with us... the world thinks it's given us everything for free ... and we know we've stolen the whole damn thing.... Isn't that a better idea than your idea?

NICK. (Quietly.) I think there are some things you don't understand.

GIL. I think there's nothing I don't understand. And nothing I'm willing to give up. I think that's the situation."

Had to go out of my way to get my hands on this play, WHY ISN'T EVERYBODY TALKING ABOUT THIS??? Brilliantly written, absolutely horrifying and true look at the idyllic American Dream and its falsehoods.
