I was quite enjoying this book for the first part, being a huge fan of the story of Charles VI and his ill-fated brother, but once I got over the novelty of figuring out who all the characters were representing, I honestly got kind of bored. This was a lot of things happening but not really adding to anything of substance in the end.
I found the seer character annoying. We get it, they are gender fluid. Stop mentioning it every time we see the character. There were a few parts that were repetitive, but that was the one that really irritated me. It doesn’t need to be mentioned more than once or twice… Thierry’s false modesty but also bravado thing was another irritating repetition.
Overall, I was interested in the story, enjoyed comparing it to the real world events and when it felt almost Arthurian during the interlude, but disliked most of the characters which is affecting my rating.
