The Wager: A Tale of Shipwreck, Mutiny, and Murder
by David Grann
dark
informative
medium-paced
NYT Notable Books 2023: 35/100
I tend to like Grann's writing style, as it's accessible and interesting, but even that couldn't really save this book for me. I just don't care about boats, unfortunately. I did find the contrasts to the mutiny on the Bounty interesting, as I'd read a fictionalized account of that earlier this year, but overall this just wasn't for me. The story was interesting and well-told for the most part, but the topic was just too dry for me.
