I loved this! While the beginning of this felt defensive to me (re: a few indiscretions of youth that I felt could have used a "yes I did this and yes it was messed up" rather than a "I was young!"), the entire story is lined with the grief of losing his mother at a young age and not being able to properly be comforted by his family. I admit I succumbed to a lot of "oh the oedipus is showing" comments and while parts of it felt weird (part 2, chapter 42...) it is understandable and it is so refreshing to not have anything cut out.
Ultimately we know how the story ended, but hearing everything from his point of view and therefore, the facts only, it made it so clear why they had to leave and that they were unceremoniously cut off by the family and the institution they both devoted their lives to. I cried at the ending and I think this is a great read for everyone - not a snarky or biased story in my opinion, just the facts.
