The Shadow of the Wind

Totally counting this in my challenge because a third of this book is basically the equivalent of a short novel and I did put a lot of effort in that third of reading. Let’s just say that this book was Not For Me. Among many criticism I have for it that I mostly don’t have the energy to go into, this was just too fucking bloated. Bloated plot, bloated prose (that I didn’t like). The mystery was interesting and potentially fascinating but there was just too much stuff around it and I didn’t care enough about any of it.
EDIT: after skimming some parts of it and having a long convo with my buddy reader for this book, I’m giving it one star and expressing my utter bafflement at the praise this book is getting. It’s utterly sexist drivel and badly written to boot—I gave the author a lot of goodwill and benefit of the doubt at first but seeing how things unfold in the end I just can’t deal.
