When I first got around to the original Twilight novel, I was still clinging to the vestiges of adolescence. My inner fangirl could enjoy it and still does. That said, this sequel was a chore to read. This took the problems with the original and magnified them. Far from epic in any sense of the word, it is quite slow and lacks a real pay-off. The encounter with the Volturi is anti-climactic, but their characters are intriguing. However, the worst part is our "heroine." Bella is just pathetic this time. Things get off to a bad start with Bella whining about her birthday. You're only eighteen; get a grip, girl! Of course, she doesn't. She falls apart when Edward leaves and only Jacob can save her. It's terrible that she uses him so much here. The werewolves were good, though...
