High Voltage by Karen Marie Moning

4.0

There’s definitely a “jump the shark” element to this book and I do think it’s hard in a series when you have a spin-off and your characters are pretty similar to the original characters... like we’ve got a bit of a repeat storyline going on here with the romance. At the same time, it’s one of my favorite romance tropes so I don’t hate it. I also think that in the midst of this crazy, urban fantasy book with faeries, “beasts”, gods, humans, etc.... moning writes really (really!) eloquently about love and loss and grief . I mean . If you can read “the letter” without crying (iykyk) do you even have a heart? Of course, the words in grief and loss resonate with me because I have lost people in my life and she just nails it. We’ve got book 11 coming in January 2021- will that be jt? Honestly, I hope not. I keep reading these thinking how is she going to continue the series, then she does and it works. At the very least she can expand on a lot of the side characters: Christian, kat, Sean, Daegus (seriously- where is he?) that she introduces and then basically let’s fall to the side with no further mention. I’m still waiting for more information about Kasteo! That being said, loved it like pi.
