Buffy the Vampire Slayer #1 by Jordie Bellaire

3.0

I've got to admit that I was fairly sceptical when I first loaded this onto my Kindle. I'm a huge fan of the Buffy TV series, and have read all of the Dark Hose Comic "seasons" that continued the plot of the show (the quality of these varied widely, but the good ones were excellent).

I wasn't too pleaded with the sudden discontinuation of the Dark Horse Buffyverse, and I really wasn't sold on the need for a contemporary rebooted or reimaged series of Buffy comics.

That having been said, I quite enjoyed this first issue and I'm looking forward to the next one. The cover is great, the art throughout is pretty good and captures the essence of the characters, the voices seem recognisable, and none of the tweaks that have been made to characters or their back stories bothered me.

This is a solid, but also very much "playing it safe" start. Let's see where this new series of Buffy comics takes us!
