În munţii nebuniei
by H.P. Lovecraft
This book contains too many details and is too dry, tedious, with almost no action. Finally found a cure for my insomnia.
I could barely get through this book, because it was so detailed and repetitive. Why do I need to know the dimensions of all things or even the location? I understand that it can give the book a “scientific” look, but it was too much. As an example – “blocks as large as 4 x 6 x 8 feet”, “a mighty arc from about Latitude 82°, E. Longitude 60° to Latitude 70°, E. Longitude 115°”. Also, some words are repeted so often, it becomes annoying – „mountains of madness”, „Comanchian”, „mountains of madness”, „opalescent haze”... and lets not forget about „these mountains of madness”.
The story is interesting – finding evidence of a civilization that predates the human civilization. The setting was superbe – Antarctica. But the execution could have been better. Much better.
** stars.
