Vivid prose and tight pacing, I felt the story come to life as I read this. Some of the writing was visceral enough that it took me out of the reading experience sometimes, but it wasn't enough to affect my overall enjoyment. Outside of that, I loved the rich worldbuilding and the folktale-esque feeling to the entire story. It was dark and violent but also tender and beautiful. The story's multi-narrative, meta approach helped its exploration of family, identity, and redemption through a subtle decolonial perspective. The characters and plot were so compelling, I think I'll come back to this story often. Highly recommend!
Graphic: Death, Violence, Blood, and Cannibalism
Moderate: Ableism
