I read for fun, but damn this felt like a full-time job.

This was my least favorite book of the series. I just can’t get past how Diem is so, so, soooo blind to the oh so obvious. She better relearn her parents’ advice and start using her brain in the next book. Outside of her painful obliviousness, the plot was moving at a snail’s pace. For some reason, the reader had to constantly be reminded of how much Diem cares for the mortals and the children and the Descendents and blah blah blah. Like, we get it. Injustice is bad and she’s altruistic AF, I don’t need a reminder—followed by the most asinine choices—every other chapter. Also, the “spark” between Diem and Luther was barely there and definitely not worth the three-book build up. Don’t even get me started on her mom.

So, what did I appreciate? The world-building and magic system were interesting. The side characters were enjoyable, funny, and a much needed distraction from Diem.

35 hours is diabolical for an audiobook. Yet if I weren’t audiobooking this, I honestly don’t know if I would’ve finished. Read at your own risk. 🤷🏻‍♀️
