Sleeping Giants by Sylvain Neuvel
5.0
This story of Sleeping Giants is told in the form of interviews. The main characters are questioned repeatedly, allowing us to get to know them. Most of the debriefings are conducted by a shadowy figure of power whose identity is unclear throughout most of the book. He reminded me a bit of the Cigarette Smoking man from the X-files. Clearly morally questionable and unsavory.
Like The Martian, Sleeping Giants has a lovely sarcastic wit and more than enough edge of the seat moments to keep the adrenalin pumping. The homage to the Princess Bride was pretty fabulous!
It's an ingenious way to tell a story and while it's not entirely original, it totally fit the story. The book's highly imaginative central plot made me want to tell everyone to leave me be so that I could just sit and READ IT. And when finished, while in no way a cliffhanger, it left me wanting the next book ASAP. Definitely, a book I would recommend.
