Call Me Zelda by Erika Robuck

2.0

Erika Robuck set out on a daunting task when she decided to write about the Fitzgeralds. The novel provides a good starting point for those who wish to get back into reading as I have, but do not expect to be deeply moved by the writing or the plot.

While the writing style flows, the language used varies between simplistic to overly sophisticated (to the point of trying too hard). The novel kept me in a constant imbalance of finding the sections with Zelda more interesting and finding Anna's section more interesting but led to no climax that was satisfying.

I felt that Anna was well-developed but her story became simplified throughout and the backstory that made her interesting evaporated. The romances portrayed between Anna and other characters throughout are stale and, with the exception of Ben, they don't seem to serve a purpose.

This is only the first book I've read dealing with the Fitzgeralds. I know there are more and I can say this novel is probably one of the worst written.
