Never Let Me Go by Kazuo Ishiguro
4.0
I went into this with no idea of the plot and I got the whole experience of each layer of discovery. I definitely recommend doing the same. It's a beautiful, sobering, and frustrating read, especially within the context of our real world that prioritizes convenience over the well-being of others and the planet. The frustrating aspect is watching the inaction of individuals within the story, for others and for themselves, but this isn't a story of overcoming. It's a one of existing within a society willing to commodify for its own benefit at the direct cost of others, and it's no different than our reality, even 20 years after this book was published. This book is haunting and poignant for all it doesn't say.
