After reading the dark, sinister, but beautiful book, I wanted to read the graphic novel. I both agree and disagree with others who said this graphic novel lost some of the dark, severe situations depicted within the original novel. In some sense, the narrator of the original novel gives you a lot of introspective thoughts that make the situations have more gravity and real life perspective. Where I disagree is, in a graphic novel that's conveyed through the art. I definitely feel this perspective was illustrated well by the artwork and dialogue.

It's condensed from the novel for obvious reasons, and so people need to take more time to really absorb the art shown to see every detail. Seeing these illustrations of events lets you play this in your head with actual visual reference. I think the arc they used for it, as well as the art and dialogue were a great read to add to the original novel. My only advice is to read the original novel first and let this be an add on from that.
