I can see why some reviewers rave about this book,  but it wasn't for me. The first person viewpoint of someone with a mental illness is a promising approach,  but for me it communicated more about how awful it must be to live with someone like that than really getting inside their head.
There were a number of things I really didn't like.
The mother's alcohism being cured just because her daughter told her to stop drinking. The protagonist being cured just by popping some pills. The made up nature and lack of a name for her illness. The idea that some people get paid for sitting around all day doing nothing.
. Others will probably be less irritated by those things.
