A Distant Mirror: The Calamitous 14th Century
by Barbara W. Tuchman
This book is absolutely bursting with information. The main players here are France and Italy, with England a somewhat distant third. Territories outside of these don’t get equal coverage. That being said, Tuchman covers it all! Or, quite a lot. Plague, taxation, the papal schism, crusades, social unrest....it’s all here! While parts of the book can get dry, Tuchman doesn’t fail to see the humor in history and that is a very good thing.
