An intriguing romance for fantasy lovers. I really liked the set up and world building. The fantasy elements were nicely written and it was easy to get absorbed into this magical world, which felt unique and made me want to learn more about it. I thought Adria and Lian were interesting characters. Adria's disease was fascinating and I had to wince along with all of her pain.
This story would really benefit from being a full novel instead of a novella because it ended up feeling rushed, particularly in the second half, where it also really plunges into the Little Mermaid influence. I wish it had more room to breathe and the story and characters had space to be more fleshed out. It is an enemy to lovers story but it happened SO quickly. There is some spice near the end, which was nice but I would have loved to see their relationship develop more first.
The chapters switch between the perspective of the characters, which worked well. But.. while the description of her eyes was mentioned once, his eyes - sorry, his cerulean eyes, are noted.. 8 times. Not eyes. Not blue eyes. Cerulean eyes. Every time. It got distracting, especially in a short novella.
I think the first half was a lot stronger as the second half found resolutions that felt dissatisfying. The gods basically said, here are a list of solutions, all conveniently laid out for you. Pick one. The end.
