The September House
by Carissa Orlando
3 ⭐️ This book had such potential to be creepy and spooky. Instead it starts off almost comical in how the main character was interacting with the ghosts so I didn’t take them seriously at all. Like a woman showing up with an axe wound to the face should be creepy but instead she’s described as a ghost house keeper who keeps rearranging the house in goofy ways. Or the little boy ghost who constantly bites the main character and it’s just played off as a quirk if the ghost. Then as the book progresses you’re supposed to be getting more and more creeped out as things get more serious but the way the foundation of the book was laid out, it just never felt scary. So bummed because there actually was potential with this one. Think American horror story season one but as a comedy.
