Mangled plot and one dimensional characters, I read this because I’d just finished one dark window and they have similar concepts, with wood curse and old wood spirits ruling infection over citizens as well as the concept of the forest “gives and takes”. Our main characters only personality trait is that she was formerly a nervous child, this is never really shown with descriptions and is really just stated over and over. The “twist” with the Fox was obvious from minute one, so it got annoying that the characters didn’t know what was going on when it was so obvious to the reader. Listened to this as an audiobook.
