A Drop of the Sea by Ingrid Chabbert

4.0

Ali's great-grandmother has only one wish - to see the sea before she dies. It is a two-day walk from their small village to the sea and there is no way she could travel that far, so Ali decides to make the trip for her and bring back a bucket of water as a souvenir. The journey is long, hard and hot, but Ali makes it to the sea and is in awe of its beauty and magnitude. He dutifully lugs a pail of water back to his home, but when he gives it to his great-grandmother there are only a few drops left. Is she disappointed? of course not! Her great grandson has given her the most precious gift of her life. This is a sweet celebration of relationships and the sacrifices we make for those we love. The sparse digital illustrations are a perfect match for the story.
