The Weyward women are unique from the status quo, particularly in medical/religious beliefs. This alienates them and opens them up to abuses from the people around them. I found some of the transitions between the three women a bit clunky sometimes as it felt like the presented plotline was being chopped at the knees to bring one of the others back in.
A lot of the violence happens off page so you know but you don't know. For example you are told a 'medical procedure' has been forced upon one character but you don't see that 'procedure' happening through their eyes. There is a fairly graphic 'encouraged miscarriage'
one of the women was assaulted and, once she learns she is to marry her assaulter, she takes an herbal mixture to cause an abortion
. There is also a less graphic 'encouraged miscarriage' that is paired with a ramping up of domestic violence for a side character, including implied spousal rape
(admittedly this particular series of events I am referring to could have just been a beating so severe the husband didn't want to allow the townspeople to see the bruises and stuff)

Similar subject matter has been handled way worse in other books so if you are sensitive to the content warnings consider getting the audiobook edition so you can set the person to speak faster and not give yourself time to dwell.
