Upon discovering that the sequel to the first book was on its way, I eagerly pulled it off my shelf to experience the two stories in close succession. I can confidently say that I was not disappointed. The Dragon Spirit Duology presents a brilliant retelling of Mulan, infused with a unique twist. Told from Meilin’s perspective, these captivating narratives lead us through her relentless journey to become a legendary warrior, ultimately delving deep into her obsession with leaving an indelible mark on history.

This sequel picks up seamlessly where the first book left off, delivering an equally gripping experience.

Meilin's journey is both heart-wrenching and intensely gripping. She faces insurmountable choices, betrayal, and the harsh realities that threaten to overwhelm her. Amidst these challenges, she discovers a love that guides her toward understanding her true path. She is not only fighting for survival but also for the right to embrace her identity in a world that demands she conceal it. Her struggle to love, to live, and ultimately to find peace within herself is powerful and relatable. While I longed for Meilin to choose her ultimate destiny, I also found myself wishing this extraordinary tale would never end.

Narrator Natalie Naudus brought both books to life with remarkable skill. Her portrayal of Meilin is hauntingly beautiful, and her voices for Sky and Lei are equally impressive, particularly her rendition of Lei, which left a lasting impression.

If you crave political intrigue, intense battles, passionate romance, and soul-stirring moments, this series is an absolute must-read. I’m truly glad I waited to experience these two books back-to-back. Both are available now!
