This is a simple and cute story that re-instilled the value of YA books for me. The main character was endearing and proved her unique-ness through her actions and values, not some inherent chosen one plot. I saw the kind of positive impact this story could have on young girls which is what made it so enjoyable for me. The plot lagged sometimes and there were moments that I wish the main character wasn't so helpless to the world around her, but she made up for it in her bravery and desire to be there for others. And the worldbuilding was interesting as well! I love the Asian mythos inspiration. Overall, this isn't anything lifechanging for me, but I found it endearing nonetheless, and I think it achieved what it set out to do.
