I've lived in Nashville my whole life and have never ONCE learned about the march on the state capitol or the sit-ins at downtown Nashville restaurants. I'm sad that these pieces of history were left out of my education, as they're essential to understanding where I come from. I'm so happy to learn about it now, though, and to learn about such influential figures as John Lewis. I'm hopeful that a new generation of Tennesseans in Nashville will, through books like this, have a more diverse and complete picture of the history of their city and state.
