The Water Dancer by Ta-Nehisi Coates
3.0

This book is very involved. Theres a lot going on with the characters, who come and go, and the plot, which is shifting and always changing pace. The descriptions are lavish and exhaustive. You have to dedicate to this book and really pay attention. There were sections that really drew me in, and I couldn't put it down but I found myself skimming other sections. The book implies and hints a lot, and if you miss something you'll surely find yourself confused.

I think part of the reason why I can't give the book the rating I want to, is because I plainly couldn't connect with the book, the writing, then feelings of the characters.

This may be me, but I wanted to like it more than I did. Which isn't to say it's a bad book. I was able to piece enough together to understand the gist and the ending. Ta-Nehisi Coates is certainly a stunning writer and this book was devastatingly beautiful. But I won't be picking it up again or suggesting it.
