Rules for Being a Girl
by Katie Cotugno, Candace Bushnell
Man, was this a necessary read. It was difficult at times, eye-rolly at times, but it always felt authentic. This is a great (fictional) example of the messiness of understanding and navigating sexual harassment, gender power inequity, and gaslighting in high school. It's also a really great example of how a male peer advocate acts/talks/supports. I loved the authenticity of voice and the differences between the voice in one's head, the voice one uses when confronted, and the measured, thoughtful voice afforded in writing. I definitely recommend this for young women, and young men as well.
