T Kingfisher knows how to write a good main character and sidekick comedic-like duo. I absolutely loved the characters and BONGO was a loveable goof who I could picture so clearly (he reminds me of my lab).
The imagery and descriptions gave me goosebumps so often… the stones and the effigies were so incredibly creepy and weird. The scene where she finds one hanging from a tree… I had to put the book down and call it a night 😩 Also the jumpscare of the deer like one looking in the window… HELL NO 😳
Overall, I sped through this and thoroughly enjoyed reading this original folky horror. 4.25 stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✨
I can’t figure out if I like this more than The Hollow Places? I think this might just have the edge a little bit… mainly because of the jumpscare and the dog 🐕
