Queen's Hope by E.K. Johnston

2.0

I had high hopes for this book after thoroughly enjoying the first two in the series, but I'm sad to say that I was rather disappointed. While I like how Johnston has expanded upon the characters of the handmaidens and given them stories of their own, I was hoping for... well, a bit more Padmé in a book about Padmé. I felt as though she was sidelined in a book that I expected to largely be about her, at a time when her life is arguably becoming the most interesting. Her relationship with Anakin is barely explored at all, and while their marriage is still new at the point in which the novel takes place, I still expected it to be mentioned a bit more.

I definitely recommend reading Queen's Hope if you've read the entire trilogy and want closure about the handmaidens, but as a standalone Star Wars book? Unfortunately, this doesn't make my list of essential reading.
