I was recommended this series by a friend and I absolutely loved it. I find it shocking that it’s middle grade - the story feels a lot darker than what I usually see for that age group. It’s certainly not a happy tale. In fact, the story is near depressing. The main character is tormented/tortured, people die, and injuries are written out in a bit more detail (nothing gory, for sure though!). Fans of the Nevermoor series will love this!
