I understand why this isn’t for everyone but I find it fascinating that Brontë chose such unlikeable characters to be the focus of the book. I don’t think this detracts from the emotions of the writing, and the intense love and lust which Heathcliffe and Catherine feel for each other despite their complete selfishness and disagreeableness makes for an interesting and unique story with some beautiful quotes, e.g. ‘He's more myself than I am. Whatever our souls are made of, his and mine are the same.’

The unusual structure of the writing works and does not detract from the overall narrative. I was not going to give it 5 stars because sometimes the melodrama and insufferable nature of the characters felt like too much but it is one of those books which I will reflect upon and think about often, which to me is a sign of a great book. Also for being the reason the song Wuthering Heights by Kate Bush exists.
