Furyborn by Claire Legrand

Minor spoilers ahead!

DNFed at the 200 page mark which is almost halfway through, so I feel like things aren't going to change enough that I'm suddenly going to love this. It's not that Furyborn is bad, but it's far too long and mediocre for me to continue reading it. The chapters have alternating POVs, and are so brief (4-7 pages long) that it's annoying to read. From a writing perspective it's interesting, because the short chapters all end on cliffhangers and it's enough to convince you to keep reading to see what happens next, and the whiplash distracts from the poor writing. Because Furyborn is poorly written. There's little to no character development due to the bouncing between POVs and the action packed chapters. I know so little about Rielle that I don't care about her, and Eliana is really bad at her job as an assassin. There was also so little development for the character that died that there was literally no impact, and that disconnect pulled me even further out of the story.

TL;DR I'm not willing to read over 1000 more pages to find out what happens to characters I don't care about.
