This book was much better than I expected from a BOTM pick. It was well-written and enthralling, but I wonder how much of that is from the gimmicks used in the audiobook—multiple actors, music, sound effects—I don’t think this book would have been nearly as strong to me if I had read a physical copy with my own eyes, but in the end it was a very interesting story that unraveled well. Some cringe with the stuff about feminism, the attitude toward Josie being groomed, the way people acted about the podcast and true crime stuff in general (accurate but cringe), and COVID-19 being involved, but it didn’t turn me off too much.
