Ship of Magic by Robin Hobb
5.0

This bloody book.

I bought it months ago, the promise of fantasy, pirates and some form of weird old timer version of Cars where the boats talk? Lightning McSailTheSeven seas. I was sold. Then i procrastinated, 900 pages scared me. Yeh, i got st(p)age fright. But boy, when i put on the big boy pants and folded the cover over.

This is a PAGE TURNER. Miss Hobb, not only do you make wonderful biscuits but you write in such a way that im sucked in and im not sure how to let go. Yanno when you attach the hoover to your skin and the bastarding thing won come away. SUCKED. IN.

Now im a fantasy man, im a world building aficionado. I want all the lego blocks out the tub, build around me with every page and leave me in awe of your construction. This book did that, but not in the usual manner the other authors i enjoy write, where its like wasp. The world is zipping around me, its busy, its so fast and every changing that its sometimes a pain in the arse. It has my attention but im not sure if its fear or interest. Robin builds her worlds with such a polar approach.
Its the summer butterfly that makes Jack go aww wow, look at that beauty. Its the new goose feather pillow that makes Jack go aww wow, thats so soft and comforting, its the smooth vanilla ice cream on the summers day that makes Jack go aww wow, im so refreshed and i have brain freeze but im smiling. Its the simple pleasure of every page being a complete joy to read. As i said, 900 pages scared me, but Robin took my hand, she said dont worry Jack, ive got a torch for this dark path and I actually know the way home. Love you Robin.

Only other thing id add is I found out ive joined this world of Robins, sorta half way through the LARGER world. Basically she has other series before this one and after. I kinda see it like im with Frodo and Sam, we are angry at Saruman, Gollum is chilling with us, im having a great time but ive not really got any idea why am I here and why is everyone talking about a ring... Ya get me?

Heres to book two...
