I’ve enjoyed a few of Tessa Bailey’s books, but It Happened One Summer takes the cake in my opinion. It’s got Schitt’s Creek vibes, it’s got humor, it’s got Brendan. What more do I need?

When I first started it, I couldn’t help but roll my eyes at Piper and instantly wasn’t feeling the vibes. (I had a very similar reaction to Alexis in Schitt’s Creek in the first season.) It pretty much took her meeting Brendan for the story to pick up for me and then the tension and hilarious missteps took over and it just grabbed my attention and I couldn’t put it down.

Piper’s growth was one of the best things about this story. I loved the relationships she formed with others in the town and how she actually fit right in, even though she didn’t feel that way. I was so disappointed in her mom and stepfather for how they treated her father’s memory and I was so happy that Piper was able to make connections to her dad.

Brendan is what I want in a romance male lead. “I love you. More than any ocean, do you hear me?” I MEAN COME ON.

Anyway, this book brought me so much joy, I was downright giddy at times, and I loved Brendan and Piper as a couple. I do wish that Tessa Bailey’s characters could be in relationships for longer than a couple weeks before trying to convince me they belong together, but I still enjoy it nonetheless.
