I wanted something angsty and full of tension and Come Break My Heart Again delivered on that.
I enjoyed the dual timeline because things that happened in present day, were directly referenced in the next flashback chapter, highlighting how our MC have (and have not) changed since they were in high school.
Ryder and Elle are totally giving Claire and Bender from Breakfast Club. I enjoyed most of their dialogue when they were actually communicating.
While the ~vibes~ of this book were fantastic, there are a lot of plot points that the author just abandoned leaving me with a lot questions— was Ryder set up? Does Elle have a conversation with her parents about them projecting her dead sister onto her? Is Elle going to continue pursuing law even though she repeatedly says she’s only doing it to pacify her family?
And where are the details about their freshman year romance? We got one measly page! In order to enjoy this book, you kind of just need to accept that Ryder and Elle love one another already. If you’re itching to learn more about HOW that happened then sorry you’re not going to get it.
I also find it strange that Ryder is pretty much exactly the same after spending SEVEN YEARS in prison. That’s a long ass time! And Elle, I’m sorry but she was just so whiny and unbearable.
If you’re looking for a Lifetime movie-esque slow burn second chance romance then you might as well pick it up. Cute book but not required reading.
